Constant Tension
  (With Follower Arm)

Model 839
Magnetic Brake for Constant Tension Payoff

Magnetic Brake With Follower Arm
These provide constant tension when used in dedicated payoff applications. The device is ideal for paying off wire, cable and a variety of films and tapes where constant tension is required.
Available in 3 torque ranges.

Features
Bearing-supported magnetic cap for smooth arm movement
Bearing-mounted Delrin wheel
Stainless-steel self centering adjustment arm
All magnetic, no electricity, no wearing parts

Theory
The magnetic brake is mounted as shown, central to payoff spool at a fixed centerline distance (CD) which is determined by pulley ratio from brake to spool shaft and timing belt. The adjustment arm attached to magnetic brake has a Delrin wheel riding on diameter C following material down as material pays off to B. This arm angle change decreases the braking torque to maintain constant line tension throughout spool payoff from C to B. The pulley ratios determines the final torque transferred to spool shaft to achieve desired line tension.

Setup
(Customer Supplied Specs)  _________
Line Tension _________
Full Spool Dia "C" _________
Empty Spool Dia "B" _________
Line Speed _________
Spool Width Inside "W" _________

For best operation unit should be set up for 100% and adjust down the torque scale to desired ratio of customer spool. This will prevent cogging or uneven magnetic tension during payoff. MTL applications engineers will assist with setup and layout drawings for customer spools based on supplied specs.
